Casa Castillo
Jumilla, Spain
About this estate
Bodegas Casa Castillo is a winery at Jumilla, Murcia, on an estate of 420 hectares, of which 170 hectares are vineyards. The site states that all its grapes are grown on the estate. Monastrell, Garnacha and Syrah are grown traditionally, dry-farmed and bush-trained, on parcels on the north-facing slopes of the Sierra de El Molar at 700 metres, on sandy calcareous soil covered with limestone gravel. José Sánchez-Cerezo acquired the Finca Casa Castillo in 1941. In 1991 his son-in-law, Nemesio Vicente Vicente, proposed rebuilding the disused winery to make wine from the estate's grapes. His four children now run the property.
