About this estate
Bodegas Puelles is a family winery in Ábalos, La Rioja. Its website says the Puelles family has lived in Ábalos since time immemorial, with a winemaking tradition of similar age. The current generation, the Puelles brothers, enlarged the Finca El Molino into a winery beside a 17th-century mill that the family acquired from the municipality in 1844. The site states that wine was first sold commercially in 1974 and first bottled at El Molino in 1987. Its vineyards, mostly within a few kilometres of the winery, lie between 450 and 630 metres on clay-limestone soils, with Tempranillo the most productive variety. The winery also offers visits and accommodation.
