Bodega Akutain
Rioja, Spain
About this estate
Bodega Akutain is a family winery in Haro, La Rioja, making red wines under the D.O. Rioja since the late 1970s. All its wine comes from its own vineyards within 3 km of the winery, in the Rioja Alta subzone. It was founded by Juan José Peñagarikano Akutain in the mid-1970s with the purchase of the La Manzanera vineyard, where the winery stands, and his son Jon Peñagarikano Akutain has run operations since 2013. The estate farms four vineyards, La Manzanera, Cihuri, Gembres and Ponzabala, planted between 1975 and 1990, with Tempranillo as the main grape. Its bottle-ageing cellars are cut into rock beneath the vines.
